It depends on two primary factors: 1) How long it take to find the home you want to buy, and 2) How you plan to pay for the home.
The time required to find your home will vary. On average, our clients view between 5 and 10 homes in person before making an offer. If that seem really low, that's because it is.
With proper preparation, it is not uncommon to find a home in only or two trips to see houses. This is possible when you’ve taken the time to provide feedback on what you’re interested in, and when we’ve been able to review homes together online before visiting the homes in person. As a Realtor, it is my job to find out what is most important to you, to effectively and efficiently find a home that meets what you're looking for, and to help you get it at the best price.
Once you’ve found a home you’re interested in, the next step will be to make an offer. It normally takes between 30 and 45 days from the time the offer is accepted by the Seller to the time required to close the deal. This will vary depending on the type of financing you'll be using. It normally takes longer for VA and FHA loans which have more stringent property requirements and sometimes require multiple inspections on behalf of the bank.
There is no set amount of time; however, unless you're paying cash, you'll need at least 6 weeks for the process. If you can, it's a good idea to start your search about 3 months before you want to move into your new place--this should give you plenty of time to search, negotiate, and move!
